Light

Colmanara and other Oncidium intergenerics need strong light for good growth.

Light should be adjusted to provide 25-60% sun. If you have a light meter, it should read from 2,,000 to 3,000 F.C. (foot candles). If a meter is unavailable, you can judge the amount of light by touching the leaves to see how warm they feel. The leaves should feel warm, but not hot.

Your plant may be placed in direct sun from dawn until 10 a.m. and from 3 p.m. until dusk. However, if your plant has been in a shaded area, its transition to bright light should be made gradually.

Since increasing the amount of light will increase plant temperature, you will need to increase air movement to avoid overheating.

Over time, leaf color is a good indication of whether or not the plant is receiving the proper amount of light. Leaves should be light to medium green for the plant to bloom.
